For the first time in years I have been able to play Railroad Tycoon (original version) on my PC using Windows XP thanks to DosBox

When I try and use it on my laptop which came loaded with Vista (alas!) the full screen mode doesn't work. The screen first goes blank (as I would expect from the PC version) but then a mini-window about a quarter of the size of the screen appears with the game displayed inside it.

This is not large enough to play easily. DosBox claims to be compatible with Vista, but its compatibility is seriously limited by the screen size.

Is there a solution?

Francis

Press ALT+Enter or change fullscreen= in dosbox.conf

You may also need to play with fullresolution=, output= and aspect= in dosbox.conf to get the display just right.

As always the README that comes with DOSBOX is your best friend.

There's a shortcut to it in the Start Menu or you can access it manually in the DOSBox directory.

If you're using an LCD display, make sure the display and/or video drivers are set to scale lower resolutions up to fill the screen (preferably in a way that preserves the original aspect ratio).

You can also tell DOSBox to run at native resolution (and possibly use different renderers via the output= setting) to make it scale, although that may be a little more resource-intensive.
