😕
DosBox is a completely new program for me. I am familiar with MS-Dos. I had a machine Running Windows 98 and had all the Dos drivers for sound installed. That machine has died and now I am working on trying to the Quest For Glory Anthology series to work on a computer running Windows XP Home edition.

I have read the tutorial and read throw many of the posts, but I think I am still doing something wrong.

On my C: drive I created a folder titled old games and mounted it in DosBox by entering the following command "mount c c:\OLDGAMES"

I also mount my CD-Rom by the following command "mount d d:\ -t cdrom"

I can access files from both drives once mounted and I am even able to start the install process of the games. I get an error that says it is unable to create configuration file when installing any of the Quest for Glory games.

I have put the mount commands in the configuration of DosBox as given in the tutorial.

Any help would by greatly appreciated.

If your OLDGAMES is really here: C:\OLDGAMES and you are running as a regular user account without admin privileges then you need to make sure that you have write access to the OLDGAMES folder.

If using Vista+ then even if you are an admin then if you are using UAC then you'll either need to add your user account with full privileges to that folder or give the "Users" group full access to that folder.

I have Windows XP and I am fairly certain I have admin privileges. IS there a way to double check?

When I check my c:\ directory I do see a folder titled c:\oldgames

I check it is not a private folder but I did check the properties. I made the rookie mistake of not checking to the read only option.

Thanks

Merged multiple topics together. Please use the reply button instead of making new threads for each reply.

Aren't the Sierra XXX Anthology CD installers broken under DOSBox? I seem to remember having problems getting them to work.

Ok, I clicked security on the folder. I remove the read only on the file in the properties but as soon as I am finished with the folder Windows resets the attribute to read only.

star - then move that OldGames folder somewhere where Windows don't care about it. Like into your Documents folder.
