I would have installed it under dosgames\HOMM and I would have mount

mount c c:\dosgames
mount d d:\ -t cdrom

I used the above method and didn't have any issues running this game either...

Hmm, I don't think it matters what directory I would install it into.

Oh well...

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too).

If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

Reading the aptly named README file will be a good idea too.

While I am grateful for your reply, I find it a little bit disturbing that you are asking for my mounting information, since that was in my first post.

I am sure that I did not configure any sound or music, I simply ran the executable. As I said, the game launches and sound can be heard, video works fine, but after about 30 seconds the colors invert, and then further problems happen which ultimately result in crashing.

There is an install program that comes with it, and it gives a lot of options for sound and video, but I am not sure which combination to use. The installer can be run through dosbox as well.

Ok, so I made sure to read the guide, however it doesn't seem to be doing anything different than in my first post, except it gives some tips as to which sound configuration to use, and mounts into a different directory but that doesn't change anything (why would it, anyway?). I've tried all the sound configurations, and even tried the configuration that says I don't have a sound card, and I'm still getting the same error.

Is there an error log I can read somewhere or something?

Mounts are everything, of they are wrong then the game will not work properly.

Best bet is to setup a mount properly and then install the game in DOSBox.

If you cannot do that then you need to ensure you use the same mounting in DOSBox as you would in MS-DOS.

So in your above example you were mounting the game so the game would think it's in C:\ when really the game needs to be in C:\HOMM (or whatever the default dir it would be if the game was installed in real MS-DOS)

The instructions people provide are not there to not be followed, they were created for a reason. Not to just blow off because you think you know better.

Sure it may seem like a waste of money but:

1. You are incapable or unable to follow directions.
2. It's already done for you.
3. You can have GOG fix the game for you if it does not work.
4. You do not have to bother us.
