Ok, I downloaded Dosbox 0.73 for windows. I managed to set up all the necessary file location paths, but when I went to run my game (Mechwarrior 2), it responded "This program cannot be run in DOS mode." Everything else seems to be working ok, It just will not run the file. It is an application (.exe) file, and yes...I am using Vista. Is there anything that I can do inside of the DOSbox shell, or do I need to download some other file? Seriously, I'm dying to play Mechwarrior again. If you have any tips that could help me they would be greatly appreciated!!!!

That means the executable you tried to run is for windows. That leaves checking to being sure the version you have runs in DOS and finding the DOS executable/game instructions on running from DOS.

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too).

If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

Reading the aptly named README file will be a good idea too.

I tried it again, I got to the part where it would be time to install the program (forget about getting to the part about running the program) and I think I found the file i need to start it (_MINST.EXE). I tried it, and the dosbox said "Illegal Command: win." I tried all the other install/setup related programs and nothing worked
