Running RISE OF THE TRIAD on a XP driven PC. Game play works fine but the sound was not right. Installed VDMSOUND (thru Update 2). Now the sound is good, but game play is noticeably slower.

Don't bother trying to get the original ROTT running on XP. Just use the Win32 port as referred to in this thread:

It will need your original ROTT files installed. There was also a GLROTT project, but it appears to have died. Like I said, the hi-res versions are a hack. If you want stability, stick with the standard port.
