The former should preclude the latter... IOW, don't presume.
VDMSound wont work with my dos games, actually, Daggerfall... Yes, I do have a General MIDI compatible sound card with legacy drivers on my XP,
"Legacy Drivers" are irrelavant when it comes to a NT Operating System like XP. The OS doesn't allow direct access to your audio hardware.
...and I tryed to use VDMSound with it and it DOESN'T WORK!
From what I've seen, nobody has been unable to get Daggerfall to run "just right", even on Windows 9x.
Like HunterZ said, we need more details. I will say that we need to split things up for trouble-shooting purposes. Let's confirm that you have a valid installation for both VDMSound and Daggerfall.
For VDMSound, try downloading and installing showthread.php?threadid=1542]Ms.PacEm[/URL]. Run it with VDMSound. It auto-configures, so it should run with sound effects and music when you start up a game. Note that if you run it without VDMSound, it will configure itself to use the PC Speaker. You can change that in the game menu.
Do you get sound effects and music?
Also, try installing and running Daggerfall with "PC Speaker" or "No Sound" for your audio setting. Can you get it run that way?
