Thanks to inspirations from other people in this forum, I have finally completed my two retro builds. 😎 I figured I would build both a maxed out 386 and a maxed out 486. I acquired the parts from a combination of ebay, craigslist, and online sources over a period of about a year. The system is running Windows 95 OSR2, and I haven't gotten far enough to install any games on it yet. I have learned alot though from bench testing performance of my other boards, and figuring out how to get everything working 'just right'. I can actually surf the web with some patience, although I need to find a better browser then IE3, and Windows itself runs quite decently all things considered. Here is a list of the 386 components:
1. Pionex branded AT case with Bestec 200watt power supply.
2. Unknown brand motherboard with ALI M1426 chipset.
3. 32MB of memory ( 8 4MB 30-pin SIMMS)
4. AMD 386DX40 CPU w Cyrix Fasmath math co-processor.
5. Tseng Labs ET4000AX ISA video card with 1MB memory.
6. ISA controller card with Windbond chip.
7. Creative SoundBlaster 64AWE ISA sound card.
8. 3Com ISA Etherlink III network card.
9. Lite-On 32x CD-ROM drive.
10. Seagate 4GB IDE hard drive, 3 1/4 floppy drive.
