*If* I manage to get the mount command to create a C hard drive and subdirectory, how do I make DOSbox recognize my A floppy drive so I can copy files from floppy discs to HDD?

And remember to do a rescan (by typing that on the command line or by pressing Ctrl-F4) after inserting a new floppy. Otherwise DOSBox may still think the old floppy is in the drive.
