It's "early days", but all seems well with it. I switched browsers hoping I could solve an unusual problem with repetitive disk thrashing, on Windows XP SP3. And it seems to have worked. Before switching browsers, I disabled as many non-essential services as possible, but that still didn't work. Now, using firefox, I don't think my HDD has gone in to "thrash mode" once.

Firefox and Opera rocks

After I switched to Firefox from IE I haven't had a single virus or other malware issue on my Windoze boxes

IE is still useful for some things, but the IE Tab extension for Firefox takes care of that.

I think Firefox is just a little bit slow sometimes, but I've found a couple of extensions that really ought to be implemented everywhere that make the experience worthwhile. Why the frak isn't URL Fixer a standard feature!?

I am a long time satisfied Opera user although latest version 10.10 is doing some weird things on my rig regarding disk cache.

Firefox + noScript FTW

I was a long time Mozilla user and then switched firefox sometime around version 1.6. Noscript is an awsome extension that lets you selectively disable javascript based on the site, this greatly enhances securtiy and performance since your only running scripts you need. Highly recommended

About the the only thing I use IE for is windows update. I always keep it at version 6 too, I'll let it install the security fixes but I never let it upgrade to version 7 or 8.[/b]

I haven't used IE since the 90's, before Firefox and Mozilla I was using Netscape.

I think my first web browser was embedded into Prodigy, hehe.

I agree with the NOSCRIPT extension. A must-have.

This is not that bad. Look at the bright side - he switched to FF. There are millions of others that dont even know there is an alternative to IE. Thats why a good web developer *always* optimizes pages for IE. Moreover, pay attention to development pipeline described in almost all HTML/CSS/Web development bibles (e.g. HTML Dog):

1) Write the code
2) Test in W3C compliant browser
3) Test in IE, write dirty hacks then GOTO (1)

Step (3) is btw taking sometimes much more time then (1) and (2) together, but we are forced to do it 😒

I like seamonkey. I use it very often. Seems faster than ff.

Not anymore! 2.x is slower as they adopted 'faster' Firefox code.

Same here. SeaMonkey 1.8.1 was great. 2.0 sucks big time, specially when using mail client.

14 years with the same browser? Woa! Did you develop some kind of emotional attachment to it or what? 😜

I still remember when Internet Explorer 4.0 was much faster than Netscape Navigator. Mozilla failed in part because of Microsoft's bundling of IE in Windows, but also in part because of the horribly huge piece of bloatware that Navigator was!

Let's hope Firefox doesn't go down the same route.

Regards.

I remember IE being so easily hacked back then, that's why I swicthed. I remeber having to fix many a computer that the home page had been permanently change, and other nasty pop-ups off-line. Still can happen today but the tools are better to get rid of it I guess. I do know that when I switched to Netscape many problems went away.

Really. I didnt noticed 2.0 was slower than 1.8.x. Well, at least now it's more secure since it uses the firefox 3.5.x code. 😀

I still use K-Meleon on occasion. I wish they'd update again soon.

Has anyone here tried Lunascape?

yeah ie is still a great way to get viruses in 98 specially with them able to hide virus scripts in images.

Netscape was the best browser of its time. It's too bad they went away.

I actually have been using Google Chrome quite a bit lately. Since the betas added extensions, I can now do all the things I used to do in Firefox. The main things I like in Chrome are:

* Speed!
* Turn websites like Facebook into stand alone mini apps.
