Dosbox isn't working for me. It opens perfectly fine (as it has on a previous computer, worked well there), but none of the keys respond. It's as if the keyboard doesn't work at all. I'm using windows vista, any ideas?

I _really_ wanted to play qfg1, so, this is kinda sucking right now.

none of the keys. That is a very weird problem.
Did you try a different output in configuration file ?

What version of Dosbox do you have and where did you get it from? Does the conf file point to a mapperfile and does that file exist? Just want to eliminate the chance that you somehow got it from a site where they pranked you...

I got it from dosbox, I looked in the directory and didn't see a mapper.txt, maybe this is the problem?

The Dosbox 0.73 executable isn't extracting a mapper.txt, surely something like this wasn't over-looked? I see a lot of other stuff mising as well

There's nothing missing.
Mapper.txt is only created if you change the default DOSBox keyboard mapping.

Instructions for opening mapper.txt manually:

1. Execute DOSBox.
2. Hit CTRL+F1 to open the mapper.
3. Click Save
4. Go to Start->DOSBox-> Capture Folder and the go to the directory above.
5. Open mapper.txt

Problem is ctrl f1 doesn't do anything. Same with ctrl f8, ctrl f12. and spamming my sdf keys

to more advanced users:
maybe there is some SDL_ keyboarddriver something? 😉

to moogle:
what is the name of your keyboard driver and what is the producer of the driver. (check in control pannel, device menager)

also try to connect a different keyboard to check whether it helps

And just for fun, try disabling all other programs running in the background, including Anti-Virus and even Firewalls (the MS built-in is fine though). These are known to sometimes cause problems.

Edit: and you don't need to disable them all the time, just once to make sure that they are not the problem.
