Having Trouble getting sound in Dark Forces

As the topic says.

The installer worked fine, I have updated to the latest version of VDMSound. When I right-click and select Run With VDMSound (with the notes next to it) VDMSound looks like it starts normally, the game comes up, but I get no sound. Has anyone experienced this?

Win XP Pro SP1
AMD Athalon @1.13GHz
768 MB RAM
SB Live!

Any help would be appreciated.

It gets better. Now if I try and start DF with VDMSound, the DF loader crashes.

Did you run the audio setup program and match it's settings with those of VDMSound?

Also, be aware that there's annoying problem when running the game's main setup program, as discussed here.
