I recently reset up my XP system from ground up and have run into a problem with VDMS.
Whenever I start a Game either via the normal or launchpad context menu I get an error with the tipofday.dll:
---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
An error was encountered while attempting to load and display the Tip of the Day:
Last error reported by Windows:
0x00000002 - Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden. (system can't find the dll)
The initialization process will now continue.
---------------------------

Well, the dll is there, vdms is properly set up in the path settings....
Wasn't there a way to disable tip of the day?

It can only be disabled by unchecking the box when you see the TotD. It runs as a DLL (ugh), so either your TipOfDay DLL is broken or your RUNDLL32.EXE is broken. The easier of the two problems is to fix the TipOfDay.dll, which is to run a "Repair" operation on VDMSound. Someone else would have to help you with RUNDLL32.EXE.

Yes, it’s my fault.

What happened is that you installed VDMSound as Administrator but you are currently running it as another user. Yes, this is a bug. Just go to Add/Remove rpograms (as that other user) and choose to "repair" the installation. This will create the required registry entry for the tip of the day (which you can then disable BTW).

well, it wasn't the problem that I installed as Admin as I did install and run it on the same account.
Totally uninstalling Vdms and reinstalling helped. Repair didn't...
Strange one...

You need to install VDMSound as Administrator, otherwise problems like this will pop up. I'm not certain of other implications of not installing as Administrator, however.

Yes, it’s my fault.

The worst that can happen if installing as non-Admin is a permissions problem.

Well, in any case, this problem seems to have been resolved, so I'm closing the thread.

Yes, it’s my fault.
