I would like to know is there a way to install an actual MS DOS on the system? I have DOSBOX and love it for running some of the old games that I liked (like Duke Nukem 3D). I want to run MS DOS 6.22, I got my Windows 3.11 for Workgroups running (somehow it won't run in Enhanced Mode, I need to get MVSC or something like that re-installed (SOMEONE ALSO HELP WITH THIS). I just want more options when I'm in DOS than what's on the Z: drive

Thanks...

You're running WfWG from Z:\? You need to mount another directory, for example C:\DOSBox.
Anyway, you can install real DOS in Virtual PC. I suggest you get MS-DOS 7.10.

What exactly do you want to do that requires MS-DOS 6.22? And don't just say you want "more options".

Installing MS-DOS in DOSBox is possible, but you have to use a hard drive image - there would be no more convenient "mount" command.

As nifty as that is, that distribution is illegal.

Oh. Oh well, I'll get rid of the link.

Nvm, pressed "quote" instead of edit.

I have decided to keep it the way it is, no big deal. The "more commands" is like the MOVE command, xcopy, etc... It's ok...thanks

Crap, I thought I pressed edit. The problem could be that the buttons are so tiny that they're easily confused. However, I recalled that MS-DOS 7.10 is under the GNU/GPL license, at least according to the installer.

The installer *might* be GNU/GPL licensed, MS-Dos 7.10 is not. MS never put any OS of tehirs under GPL AFAIK, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_x8 … erating_systems
It mentions

Current understanding has it that if one has a license to run a Windows version, one can also legally install any MS-DOS version up to the level of that Windows' version.

But that is a bit unclear...

Oic. I doubt Microsoft cares, though.

I doubt it, too, but this forum does have a strict policy in this regard for a purpose. It is better to be safe than sorry 😀
