I've tested this and DosBox record clean sound without any sound issue. In game sound is like in sample and worse sometimes - DB recording clean sound.

ps: it's not my speakers fault or my hardware. Robertmo says that he have this same problem:

After some time of playing it appears here too

So - it's global problem, not only on my PC.

It looks like many combined problems.

Mouse works properly in dos on Pentium III 450, p166+, 486dx40 and in windows xp.

Sound/music works properly in Windows XP.

Music in dos, everybody can reproduce it: after starting the game when you can turn around, after 2,5 minutes the music got hick up for 20 seconds, and again later before the end of song. This was my only problem. It doesn't affect talking. It happens on real PCs too. in both English and polish versions patched and unpatched. I also remember it from the past - i thought that was caused by my cd being scratched. 😉

I guess Jusko may also have some problems with using too many cycles for his cpu to handle, and more probably some linux sdl problems.

Jusko can you try prebuffer=50 ?
rate=44100
blocksize=4096
core=dynamic
cycles=30000

(and of course music won't be help at those broken moments 😉 )

Why did you tell about prebuffer now, when i finished Atlantis? 😁 I played The Lost Tales about 5 minutes and any no sign of this...bug... Like i said - only 5 minutes, but now i have clean sound 😁 Shame that i played whole game with that #$%#$% sound 😵 It's OK even with 43200 cycles (game running smoothly on this cycles 😮 ). With this program for mouse ATLCUT - game run exactly like under old Windows 95/98 (i read that Atlantis is problematic on XP and hard to install). I've played only 5 minutes but it looks OK - i don't want to play Atlantis once again for deepest tests (maybe again in future) - it looks fine. THANKS!!!

if you can compile dosbox, it might be interesting to determine why that larger prebuffer is needed at your place.

Futher could you try if blocksize 8192 helps as well ? (maybe with a lower prebuffer)

Water flows down the stream
How to ask questions the smart way!

No blocksize or prebuffer makes a difference for me; sound hiccups occur after awhile regardless of those settings. The hiccups occur for both SB16 and GUS configs, with both fixed and auto cycles. I did some logging during these "events", and there are no cycle spikes or dropouts, and no DSP or Mixer activity. Was some months ago that I looked at it, but figured it could as easily be a flaw in the game as a problem with DOSBox. BTW, the game does not have CD audio tracks, it streams 16-bit PCM as data for the music and speech/sfx.

ripsaw8080 there are two different problems:

1. linuxes sound problems that happen in every game,
2. atlantis music problem that happens on every dos machine. (i guess jusko was not waiting in one place for 5 minutes but wandering around, and in some places music track changes so if you change it before 2,5 minute you won't hear stuttering.)

btw - with gus and sb16 it is the same, but sb1 and sbpro are slightly different. sb1 is broken in a different/more serious way.

Well... i installed Windows for dual boot (Seven Enterprise 90 days) only to test DosBox. What i may say...on Windows i don't have any sound problems and game have good performance even on 3000 cycles. I think that on Linux my OpenSource ATi drivers was a problem. OK - many games run fine on this driver with kernel KMS for Radeon, but on Windows game run smoothly and fast even on 3000 cycles, on Linux i must set 30000 and set prebuffer=50 - even then game was little slow. I think ATi/Radeon OpenSource driver was a problem. I can play FlightGear on them ,but not all games are smooth on this driver. Maybe this driver have problem with DosBox. OK - time to delete Windows, test passed 😀
