you are novice when it comes google or checking this forum for guides also ? (laziness is not a valid excuse)
Search and ask what you don't understand

Thanks for the response. I want to install an old GAUSSX (statistical software) that runs on MS Dos on windows 7. It is not a game.

Well, as you know dosbox is geared for games. You could try running qemu with freedos (or MS-DOS if you have a copy.)

Here is a nice tutorial

http://how-to.wikia.com/wiki/How_to_install_FreeDOS_in_QEMU

You are 199k RAM short of having enough memory.
You need to buy more memory or remove any memory resident programs, Dude.

Thanks Qbix & boyofdestiny the DOSBox tutorial was very useful to me. I have successfully installed the program.I have been searching to resolve the following problem but am yet to find a solution. I cant view/edit what is on the old MS Dos program am currently working on. The view/edit option is suppose to open as a notepad file where adjustment can be made. When l click on the view/edit option notthing comes up. My guess is there is some configuration l need to do on my DOSBox.

Yes, that's probably not the "notepad" that he meant.
The editor might make use of an MS-DOS application, such as EDIT.EXE (which in turn uses QBASIC.EXE).

As long as we're nitpicking, it's actually EDIT.COM (if QBASIC.EXE is involved).
