Weeelll.... the K6-II project is dead, long live the p200mmx one! 😊
I have built this pc for my DOS gaming needs (ssi rpg's , apogee/epic games and mid-90's DOS titles) and I hope this time this configuration lives longer (or until I discover something wrong with it in terms of compatibillity)
Housed in a classic baby-AT tower , yellowed yet still attractive tower are:
- Spacewalker HOT-591P motherboard, VIA MVP3 based with both sdram/fpm slots and at/atx psu connectors.. Features 512kb L2 cache, 3xISA slots, 3xPCI slots (one shared isa/pci) and an AGP slot. With a bios upgrade to utilize hdd's up to 127GB 😊 Also present are the mandatory ps2 mouseport, onboard USB (with usb keyboard support!)
- pentium 200mmx cpu with 2X32MB SDRAM
- the mandatory Roland LAPC-I
- A CT-2230 SoundBlaster16 with a Yamaha DB50-XG addon
- a STB 4MB Riva128 AGP vga, that to my surprise has vesa3.0 support and EXCELLENT dos compatibility!
- A 32x Hitachi CD, 20GB HDD 3,5" and 5.25" FDD's
- lpt port connected to be used with a Disney Sound Source
this pc is running a ripped DOS7 version from win98SE (no win98SE files on the HDD, maybe I install wfw3.11 + pci nic to transfer files easily) and actually works pretty nice (some past quirks have been resolved now 😁 )
on to the pics 🤣
not much to see here , just the mobo , sb16, lapci and some cables...
...let the mess begin: homemade IDE "round" cable with only 1 connector , a round IDE 80pin cable for the CD and the floppy cable connected, the cable mess begins to materialize , thank god heat is not an issue
at least the addition of the vga will keep them in one place...
and here is the nice STB card I have , I added a northbridge heatsink, it really helps the hot riva128 chip (to lazy to cut the two side retainers 🙄 )
and a back/front shot (need to cover back expansion holes with blanks)
