Hi DOSBox team,
is it true that it is currently not possible to use machine mode vgaonly and scalers at the same time?
I'm asking because when playing DOS Lemmings - any of the regular or Xmas editions -, you can get fantastic results with the advmame3x scaler, as seen in the following screen shots:
Lemmings with advmame3x scaler:
Lemmings with default normal2x scaler:
However, using different scalers only seems to work when machine mode is set to any of the "regular" vga modes, for example s3_vga. But in Lemmings, these modes always result in messed up colors on the level intro screens:
Now, changing the machine type to vgaonly fixes the color corruption issue:
But, in vgaonly mode I can no longer seem to get any of the scalers to work! Regardless of which one I choose, DOSBox now always seems to use the default normal2x as displayed in screenshot 2 above. Appending 'forced' to any scaler also does not help.
So right now my choice is between having messed up level intro screens and advmame3x during the game, or correct intro screens but no advmame3x.
Is it "by design" that these two options cannot be used together, or a bug that can be fixed? Or is there maybe another way to get it working?
That would really be great... Lemmings has to be one of my favorite games of all time, and with DOSBox it could not only be played again in all its glory but actually enhanced by advmame3x.
