Pentium emulation?

I'm trying to install & run Psygnosis 'Destruction Derby 2' on my Windows 7 x64 machine. It won't run in Windows, it's incompatible with 64 bit processing, but there's a DOS version on the CD. However, this isn't a game-specific question...

When I try and run the DOS installer through DOSbox, it tells me
"This game requires a minimum of a Intel Pentium processor -
Your system only contains a Intel 80486 processor"

Now, since I have an AMD processor, I figure it's DOSbox telling the program what CPU I have - is there a way to tell it I have a Pentium?

look for cputype= in the config file.

You could try the "pentium_slow" cputype in DOSBox.conf and see if that works. If not then hopefully it's something as simple as a CPUID check that could be implemented.

As for the Windows ver of DD2 I've tested it using on a 7 64bit host with Vmware Workstation 6 and Windows 2000 as a guest OS and it works fine.

Thanks - the 'pentium_slow' worked fine to install, and it didn't even need it to run.

Unfortunately, it's one of those games that played far better in the memory than on any CPU... 🙁
