Hi All,

Hitting a brick all on this.

Installed dosbox and configured drives A & C

When running U7's install it asks a few questions and after confirming I see a message please insert disk 1 in drive A and press any key to continue. ESC to cancel.

so I hit any key (return space etc) and nothing happens, same message

Another problem, linux auto mounts the floppy in /media[drive label]

disk 1 is mounted in a folder named 1, disk 2 in 2, disk 3 in 3, 4 in 4 and so on.

Problem is dosbox wants the floppy files in 1 folder, (I think)

how do I get around this?

As a hack I tried copying all the files off the floppies and putting them in a single install folder but no luck, U7 wants to install from floppy

I tried editing fstab but but got priveledge denial trying 2 different methods in the fstab file

#
# floppy
#
#/dev/sdi /media/floppy vfat defaults 0 0

/dev/sdi /media/6 vfat rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal,shortname=lower,uid=500 0 0

hmm, installing the game should be straight forward, I had put up a small how to some time ago:
http://exult.sourceforge.net/docs.php#dosbox_floppy

As for your mounting problem on linux, you can try and make floppy images of the floppies first and mount them all in one imgmount and change images by pressing ctrl-f4.
If you don't care about solving this with Dosbox you can go to the following topic n the Exult documentation on how to install the game manually http://exult.sourceforge.net/docs.php#bg_manual. This is using the Windows copy command which appends all the files that make the zips by using the copy switch /b. I have no idea which command equals that on *nix though...
I'd be glad if you could tell me so I can add that to the guide 😀

OK, I found the brute force method.
Sorry to bother you.

Appears to work, once I turned up the speed, to around 15K cycles.

I found a posting on how to manually install U7.

Maybe it was your prior how to, basically copy the files off the floppies and create 3 zip files then manually extract the files/folders from the zip files.

I see, thanks for "reporting" back. If you get bored with lock stock u7 try out Exult, though if you do check out latest Svn instead of the last release (which is veeeeeerrrrrryyyyyyy oooooooooolllllld 😉)

OK, thanks

I have several old Dos games that were never finished, but just couldn't bring myself to donate to charity or any one else. I was just going to scrounge up the parts and build a dedicated dos and early windows box (win 95-98).

But it appears that doxbox will do what I'm looking for at least in the dos world.

I'm not 100 % sure if Win Vista or Win 7 can or can't do older win 95/98 applications.
But it's something that I'll round to it, some day...

U7 appears to be working fine, after a few config changes.
The linux box is Intel core II dual at 3.ghz with 4 gig memory and used for multiuse including mythtv mail office and a few other odds and ends, While running dosbox cpu utilization was arounf 70% for both cores so no worries. If needed I have another fedora box with a amd x64 6000 processor, should have more than enough hp to run dos apps.

Know of any benchmarks so I can figure out how this install compares with real world?
