So, if I put this in my Windows 7 PC, is there anything special I would have to do make it work? Would I have to run the games from inside DOSBOX or can Win 7 run 95/98 games?

I have that collection too, I've had no issues installing the games under DOSBOX on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Can DOSBOX read directly from the CD ROM drive?
Yes it can. You have to mount your cd drive. Get Dosbox and read the readme to help you.

Exactly, just what I did too, I have a separate HDD for my GAMES and created a folder for installing onto called games and I mount this on boot with the DOSBOX config settings.
This way the folder is mounted as virtual drive C:
