hi all! i dled the public beta 2.1.0, and when i run doom 2 with vdms this is wat i get, "The VDmSound core program 'dosdrv.exe' could not be found. Please verify that VDMSound is properly installed, or that the VDMSPath environment variable points to the VDMSound Directory. Do you want to continue? Yes or No."

How do i rectify this problem? i reinstalled it once but still have this problem. My system is as follows,

P3 650 Mhz
64 mb ram
onboard sound Ess Allegro
4 mb S3 Savage 4

Its an old HP Omnibook.

Thanks in advance!

Impossible! A broken beta installer?!! *looks around, shuffles his feet* Nothing to see here...

Never had that problem in testing. You running as an Administrator? Right now it is exclusively a system-wide install, there is no opportunity to just install for one user, so it modifies the HKLM keys.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Had the same problem here. VDMS was installed properly, and I checked the environment variable ( Win2k : control panel - system - advanced - environment variables), which was also correct. I rebooted (again), and that fixed the problem. Obviously that didn't cut it for you, but, hey, that's what the "beta" is for, right ? 😁

Huh. The script should be telling the system to look at the updated path, I wonder why it isn't...

Yes, it’s my fault.

i will try again tonight. thanks for the reply. hmmm its kinda weird as i can execute dosdrv.exe without any problems but.... i cannot execute it in any other directory except the vdmsound directory. its kinda frustating as my pc works fine with vdms BUT the problem is with the input, i dunno why for me pc , when i execute the game , my mouse or keyboard does not register at all. therefore i am stuck at the front screen ... damn! any one has any idea wats the problem for that. i will try again and get back to u. well i would love to play doom 2 with sound on the laptop ..... kinda the only type of games on this old laptop. now if only they have a pc video card that i can chuck into the laptop 😉

Errr.... since I installed the beta, I am getting strange behaviour from my DOS prompt. Many DOS commands won't be recognized (ping, ipconfig), although the environment variables look correct... and this is the only software that I installed recently. I tried uninstalling and rebooting, but it still doesn't work. Maybe it's just something else I did, but maybe the install script is doing funny things it shouldn't with the environment variables...

What strange behaviour. I guess it never showed up during alpha testing because I always checked to make sure the variable was changed correctly. Go into your System Control Panel, then to the Advanced tab, then to Environment Variables, then find the PATH variable, double-click it, and click "OK" --that fixes it. HMM...

Yes, it’s my fault.

No, I'm on XPSP1.
I'll reinstall VirtualPC later with W2K and see what happens there.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Actually, I was referring to Cpukish and Tonton Fred, but kish has already ID'd his OS as XP.

Odd. I haven't seen any of this.

XP is fucked up re. the environment vars, that's why on XP VDMSPath and PATH will look updated in Control Panel when in fact they are not in effect and a reboot may be required.

Breaking regular apps in system32 (ping etc.) is weird. Is C:\Win....\SYSTEM32 still in the path when doing "set" or "path" in the DOS prompt?
