Yesterday I finally found out how to run TES: Arena with sounds, I needed to select "General Midi or MPU-401" in the game config so I finally enjoyed the game for the first time with sound. However, this morning I restarted a game and the sound disappeared again, I verified the game option were still "General Midi or MPU-401", yet no sound.

I reinstalled the game from scratch but still no sound so I believe it's an emulator bug. Or is there something I did wrong?

Please help.

Does your system audibly playback MIDI files? MIDI has its own Windows Mixer control, so it might be turned off for some reason OR the whole system is muted, or does TES have its own volume control and that is turned off?
Just checking the obvious first 😀

I wondered the same and I downloaded some midi files here, and played them with Media Player Classic and Creative 3D MIDI Player, and they play very fine. So I'm guessing there is nothing that prevents midi from working in my system.

Also I ran Sound Blaster X-fi diagnostic tool and it reports everything should work fine. =/

hmm, then the only thing I can think of is the selection of the midi device in the conf file.
In the midi section of the config set nothing for midiconfig or delete the whole line, so the default gets used.

If all that doesn't work... maybe you are right about a bug 😀

I finally found out what was wrong.

I was launching "A.exe" directly but the game must be launched with "arena.bat" which contains all the sound config =____________=

Sometimes the solution is really elsewhere.

Hope this will help other people who will run thro the same problem in the future.
