I'm trying to run the King's Quest games from Gog. They worked great the very first time I ran them after installing, but right after shutting the game off and restarting, it won't work. DosBox is crashing before I even get to an opening screen. I tried installing the latest edition and opening that separately, but I get the error 'SDL: can't set palatte' and then it crashes.

I'm running this on Windows XP in Mac OSX Parallels (Intel machine). Like I said, it ran great the first time, just can't get it to start again. Any advice? Thanks.

OK, it's working fine on the Mac. Possibly dumb question - how do I get the games from Parallels to the Mac so I can play them there instead? I can't seem to find a .exe file for the games, just an icon that plays them.

Wait, that's not my dumb question. I got the .exe file copied over, but when I try to run it under DosBox I get 'illegal command'. I know I mounted it to the correct directory. Can I not run a .exe file in DosBox running it from a Mac environment? Do I have to alter the file somehow?

Now I'm VERY confused. It's claiming that the program must be run under Win32. But if that's the case, why when I try to run it under Windows does it open DosBox, which then crashes? If it's not a dos program, why is it trying to run in dos? If it is a dos program, why can't I run it from dos?

you install the game in parrallels
copy the folder where it is installed to your mac
run dosbox for mac with those files

OK, if anyone cares (or if it might help anyone) I think I've solved it - I can run it without DosBox crashing in Parallels if I set the resolution to 64bpp. 8 crashes, 32 will do sound only, no images.

You may read the threads Play your Goold Old Games on a Mac and/or Q: GOG games on Mac? browsing the GOG forums,
or try to run older KQ games (1 - 3, AGI version of 4) in ScummVM (which would not need any installation).
