I am aware that there are several ways to connect external midi modules (e.g., MT-32, SC-55) to a PC, including:
1. a usb to midi interface
2. serial port
3. an MPU device via the gameport of a soundcard (whether ISA or PCI)
4. a dedicated MPU device in an ISA slot (e.g., MPU-IPC-T)
In my case I am building a PC that will run games under dos, win98 and XP. I was hoping to have a SINGLE means to connect external midi modules to the PC, that all three OSes can make use of.
Of those listed above, I take it an ISA based interface with intelligent mode would be ideal, assuming Dosbox recognizes midi devices connected to an ISA based MPU device like the MPU-IPC-T, and assuming win98 does the same. Can someone confirm if this is the case?
