I recently got my hands on a P6SET-ML ECS motherboard from and tried to run some DOS games in it (Specifically shareware DOOM v1.9 and micromachines TT II). The sound chip integrated is CMI8738 PCI 3D.I installed Windows 98 on my HD and got the drivers from Internet, installed them and ran both games just fine.
After some search I found DOS drivers (including setaudio,fix3epic,c3dmix) and tried to run games on pure DOS mode. Result: MMII has no sound at all, DOOM crashes before starting (DOS4GW Error 2002). If I remove the SETAUDIO.COM call from Autoexec.bat, MMII runs the same and DOOM doesn't crash anymore.
I've read from people on forums that have the same problem that integrated sound chips just don't work at all on real DOS mode. Then I found that some chips install an SB emulator for DOS prompt, SBEmu which appears on my Win98 installed drivers for sound.
So I'm asking if there is a way to make sound work on real DOS with this integrated sound chip.
