I've noticed while playing SSF2 turbo (floppy disk version) with the sc-55 in general midi that sometimes the music loses some instruments , as if suddenly some audio channels remained muted until the song is restarted on the next round, do this happened to anybody else?
The sc-55 is connected to a Sound Blaster AWE 64 Gold MPU-401.

This also happens in the music test on the options menu, the song start to play with missing notes but if I press play again the song start to play normally.

I'm not able to reproduce your problem on my SC-55 copados33, maybe it is related to the 'music speedup' setting in the game?

How often do you play this game?, the diference is very subtle, you have to know very well the music of the game as I do, try to play the Zangief stage track in the options menu, or maybe I might need to make some recordings for you people to compare..

EDIT: I just checked again and the problem seems to occur mainly with the channel 10 (drums), but other tracks sometimes sound completely wrong.

Happy to do a recording on my end (I can also use a AWE64 + SC55), but don't have that game. I tried the demo you sent me the link for, but there is no General Midi support...

Ok all set now? What music test should I record?

The tests are very very short...

I'm not familiar with this game so need to know what to play / do / record

EDIT:

Here is my first recording. Let me know if you spot anything...

Well, it seems that you have the same issues as I do with the drums;

1: at the gametek logo: no drums.
2: at 2:03 whne you play the intro music: no drums
3: at 3:03 title screen music: again no drums
4: 4:20 again the background music at the gametek/eurocom logo plays without drums.

This happens to me only with the SC-55, the music plays just fine without missing drums on my DB50-XG.

I can record with something else... Give me a minute...

So basically the drums are missing right?

I found the problem!!! 😀

Uploading the solution. Watch carefully at the beginning!

1. Just to be sure your SC-55 is setup correctly. Turn the unit off (standby), hold down Instrument left+right and power the unit on. It will reset everything...

So basically what I need to do is to keep restarting the SC-55 everytime the music starts to play without drums? I guess there's no permanent fix for this then.

No that wasn't it. That was just a "general housekeeping tip".

Take note of what sound card I select in the final video!

Yes, I select Sound Canvas for the Midi music too, the reset fixed the problem but its only a temporary fix, the music gets messed up again after switching a few songs throughout the game, so I guess I'll have to ditch that old SC-55 and stick to the NEC DB50-XG for my GM midi music.

I believe that Eurocom didn't compose the music for this game with SC-55 in mind, This is how the music should have sounded if it had been composed with the sc-55 in mind:

Oh bugger I thought that was it...

Because when I selected General Midi there where no drums whatsoever (just like in the video). But with Sound Canvas I got the drums. I didn't reset anything...

I only tested for a short while though. And the NEC DB doesn't have this issue at all?

No, the game plays just fine with the DB50, the Roland SCC-1 sounds fine too, it doesn't have the missing drums like in the SC-55.

I recorded these using an SCC-1

What do you recommend to test so that I can see if I also "loose" the drums over time? Just spend some time in the options - music menu?

EDIT: I'm letting the game just "run" for a while. Will check back in an hour and listen in...

You can just cycle through the music tracks on options menu, soon or later you'll see that some tracks have missing drums.

So far all good. I let it run for a while and now cycled through 20 or so songs. All good.

Midi Channel 10 seems to be the drums. What does your display show when the drums don't play anymore?

It's very very odd because the SCC1 is a SC-55 just on an ISA card...
