A couple more tweakish things for ya (or, maybe just one or two folks <grin>) 😀
I recently installed Norton Ghost v9.0 (I also have v14.0, but there's WAY more things in there than I'll *ever* use). I could care less about backup scheduling, remote backup, incremental backups, backing up to a server, etc... etc...
*ALL* that I wanna do is a FULL hard drive back from one drive to the next.
Using no "image" files; but the result simply being a bootable drive that I can pop in, set up in BIOS, and reboot to how the world looked when I performed the last full backup.
Anyhoo, after installing NG9, here's a few things that I did:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
* Disabling the Norton Ghost v9.0 Tray Application *
Delete the following Windows XP registry key:
--- cut here ---
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Norton Ghost 9.0"="C:\\Program Files\\Symantec\\Norton Ghost\\Agent\\GhostTray.exe"
--- cut here ---

* Disabling the Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 Windows XP User Account *
Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management
Local Users and Groups/Users
Double-click:
ASP.NET Machine Account
Account used for running the ASP.NET worker process (aspnet_wp.exe)
Check the "Account is disabled" checkbox.

* Disabling the Norton Ghost Agent (Change to "Load On Demand") *
Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services
Change the following:
GEARSecurity: Manual
C:\WINDOWS\System32\GEARSec.exe
Norton Ghost: Manual
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Norton Ghost\Agent\PQV2iSvc.exe
When running Norton Ghost v9.0, the following error message will be displayed:
"Not Connected - The data necessary to complete this operation is not yet available."
Click "OK".
Either click "Reconnect" in the Norton Ghost v9.0 Agent task pane, click "Tools" and then "Reconnect", or simply press F5.
