Hi guys, quick question for you.

Today I decided to try to get ol' Jageed Alliance 1 up and running in XP. Using VDM I can get the sound and music to run fine, but whenever the in game speech is supposed to be used I blink to desktop. Any suggestions?

Real quick, when you have a new question, start a new thread. Don't reply to a year-old thread that has nothing to do with the issue you are bringing up (IOW, there's no logical reason to post a question about digital audio problems on a thread about slow MIDI).

Using VDM I can get the sound and music to run fine, but whenever the in game speech is supposed to be used I blink to desktop.

By chance, is this the "ripped" version?

That's the source of the problem. The "ripped" version crashes for me when using any kind of digital audio in XP or even in Win95.

The only way it would run properly, was in the "real" DOS mode of Win95 (slight *click* noise instead of speech).

The alternatives are to choose MIDI for music only (choose "No Sound" for digital sound effects) or track down the original full version.

P.S. If you have a dual-boot setup with Dos or Win9x, those should work as well.

back to the original topic; how do you solve the problem with midi being played back too slow in jagged alliance? i´ve searched the forum all over but couldnt find a working solution (at least i can play age of rifles with sound now, thank you nicht sehr gut). the cpu usage slider doesnt make a big diffrence and since jagged alliance is dos4gw speedset is out of question as well.

my specifications are:
500mhz celeron, 512 mb ram, ati radeon 9000, diamond s.90, win xp, vdmsound 2.1.0

thanks in advance
