If so, did it use centered timings or was the image stretched?

I think that depends on the monitor. There are supposed to be monitors that allow you to select the mode.

Are you sure that the Voodoo5 Mac edition can't do it? If the monitor does it, then that introduces input lag, so it would be better if the Voodoo5 could automatically put black bars around the image. My monitor can't select the mode anyway.

I have this same card, I flashed the firmware to the PC version and used it in many boxes for testing.

I can not remember wether I noticed this or not, sorry.
