I am installing Windows 3.11. The disks are quite bad. I keep getting read errors. I want to try and fix the floppy disks. I ran scandisk a:, and it attempted to fix some problems, but then stopped fixing problems because it ran out of space. It ran out of space because it was marking areas of the disk as "bad", and then relocating the damaged data.

I then decided to delete one of the files called schdplus.ex_, because it's large, and because I probably don't need it. However, I can't delete it or move it, because the disk is "bad". Is there a utility that can free up disk space in the exact location where a bad file is located? Thanks a lot for any help.

I was able to delete the file called schdplus.ex_. Scandisk a: was then able to finish checking and fixing errors. It marked the disk with about 22 "B" for "bad" cluster symbols. I will now try to fix my other Windows 3.11 disks, and then attempt a reinstallation of this operating system..

retro games 100: not to sound like a pirate, but unless you want to use Windows 3.11 in a language that is not English don't you think you could actually fix your corrupt diskettes, by downloading a Windows 3.11 torrent ? and then copy the Windows 3.11 diskette images on to the original diskettes ? or just use the torrented images, since after all you do have the original Windows 3.11 diskettes at your disposal..

and to all others, no I am not trying to the original posting into piracy.

I enjoy installing the original software from the original disks. I have a feeling from reading posts by Vogons user Malik that he also shares this pleasure!

After deleting the large and corrupted schdplus.ex_ file, and scandisk had patched about 22 errors on this disk (number 2 of 8 ), I reran Windows 3.11 setup.exe. During this custom installation, I chose not to install MS Schedule Plus, and that fixed the problem. I was able to successfully install Windows 3.11, without any errors.

Now on to my next task, which is to install the driver for my Diamond Stealth 24, and then a Diamond 8514 Ultra co-pro card...

Malik, is an awesome member and so is Kreshna Aryaguna Nurzaman aka. KAN, and the same I can say about HunterZ. And I think all the people I have mentioned likes and prefers to use their original diskettes to install the old stuff. But sometimes you are "forced" to go a bit of an alternative route , because your original diskettes has bye bye, and then the only option is to go out, and get the exact same diskettes you had, but they are just "pirate" images of your original diskettes.
