I followed the newbies guide to dosbox and it says I installed the game correctly but when I type in HEROES to start the game it just does nothing and closes after a while.
I have windows vista 32 bit and I ran everything as administrator.
Please help me, I really want to play this game again.
Please give us EXACTLY what you are doing, including changes to the config and every command you enter in dosbox
What I changed at the confg file is these lines added below autoexec
mount C "C:\Users\Steven\oldgames\HeroesofMightandMagic
mount D "D:\" -t cdrom
C:
There are the commands I entered.
After that I press 4 to close the setup menu thingie and then it says I should type heroes to play the game.
Rename the folder heroesof... to something with 8 characters (homm1), mount the oldgames folder as c and cd into the homm1 folder.

Then reinstall the game or maybe you need to start some other program or batch file
Can you please tell us the summary size of all the files on your HoMM1 cd?
Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).
Now it says
"reboot requested quitting now"
after I type HEROES.
and then dosbox disappears and nothing happends.
homm1: ignoring us will only lead to us ignoring you.
Either reinstall from CD and this time I'd advise you to follow the guide to the letter and not kind of, or if you downloaded it from an abandonware site, delete it and buy it. We don't want to waste our time with some strange illegal rip of a game.
