The TerraTec Wave X Table DB looks impressive according to press release but does anyone of you have any recordings of it? How does it sound?

From what I read, it is supposed to have somewhat unbalanced sounds. I'll find out for myself soon, because I just bought one on eBay.

If possible, make some recordings and upload them somewhere. BTW, I was also looking at (but not bid on) that ebay offer 😉
The seller had several of these board up for auction the past few weeks. I hope to get mine by Thursday. When I get around to it, I'll make a few recordings. Any requests?
Several...
Darn, I knew I would miss out on a good deal while being abroad with crappy internet.
Could you please make some recordings that compare to the ones here: http://www.swaaye.com/retro/
--> ISA Soundcard Overview // Doom MBF 2.04 // SetMul
There were at least five of these up for auction and I missed out on the first two. I tried to get two but ended up with one. Well, once it gets here that is.
Update: my Terratec Wave XTable arrived today. However, I will not have much time to make recordings until next week.
Update: Recordings are done. I put the Wave XTable in the breakout box of a Terratec DMX 6fire 24/96 on a Windows XP machine. Recorded the MIDIs using vanBasco's Karaoke Player and Audacity 1.3.
Now I just need to convert the files to MP3 or OGG and upload them. A little more patience please.
I put the recordings up on my webspace, which you can find here: http://members.home.nl/c.kersten/Terratec%20W … e%20Recordings/
I hope I got all the names right, as the filenames of the MIDI files were rather short in a few cases. Anyway, you can have a listen now.

Awesome! Thanks for the upload! Would you be able to upload a recording of Duke3D theme please? Shareware version of Duke is available for download everywhere.
Edit: Warcraft drums sound incredible, though a bit too loud, but Lufia sounds absolutely marvelous. Are you sure you didnt use any effects while recording this? It sounds to me that the guy 'spitting' on xwave on the quest studios forums had no idea whats he talking about (or has hearing problems) 😀
Edit2: Be as it may, xwave sounds quite good compared to DB50XG and SCD-15. Final fantasy still sounds better on XG, though. I also noticed some notes are not played on intended instruments (if you take SCD-15/DB50XG as standard) like on Akanon theme, but the result may be even better then original 😀
Bah, now I'm sorry that I believed that guy from quest studios and missed the auction 😜
No problem, thanks to http://www.wavetable.nl I already had the Duke Nukem 3D MIDI. Are you familiar with that website?
The recording of the Duke Nukem 3D can now be found among the others.
I did not add any effects (or make any changes) for the recordings, this is how it sounds. The Warcraft Orc 4 recording has some rather severe clipping problems, I might make a new recording at a reduced level. The Terratec DMX 6fire driver and software are a bit temperamental in Windows XP, I have to reboot the PC often after I make changes to the master volume setting or change the MIDI device selection... The quality is nice though and so is the breakout box.
For GM the Wave XTable is pretty good (I like the pianos and the drums), but I have had strange (=rather bad) results with the few XG files I tried to play.
Very nice - very similar 'balance' of instruments to that of the SC55 and DB50/60XG. Is this a waveblaster type module? If so, then Doom E1M1 and the DN3D title theme are among the best I've heard of the waveblaster type modules.

Yes, this is a WaveBlaster type board, although Terratec included two other connectors on this board, proprietary I assume. There is a manual (which includes a picture of the board) here: ftp://ftp.terratec.de/Producer/ACCESSORIES/WA … nual_GB_1.0.pdf

The recordings are much appreciated, finally one can actually listen to that mysterious 16MB Wavetable. I doesn't sound bad at all, but I only listened briefly.
So another Dutch guy at vogons...

Eeuch... Well, we found us a theme that fails miserably on x wave 😜 So ideally, the best possible solution is to have 3 cards+DBs - a DB50XG for XG sounds, Roland SCC1 (or MT32 or equiv.) and a x wave as a third one. Now... Where to find a modern 3xISA board... 😜
And thanks again for the upload! I think you are the first in the world (ar at least the first google will mention) with X wave recordings - gratz!
If you have more time on your hands, perhaps you could also record some themes from settlers 2? Especially the 14'th one should sound interesting on x wave.

The MB800H appears to be the latest affordable motherboard with ISA support. There are other industrial motherboard with ISA and Core2 support, but they are very expensive.
There are various versions of the MB800, which is an Intel 845 P4/Celeron design (yeah, Netburst sucks, but its the best we can do if we want ISA); the best version has 1x AGP4x, 3x PCI and 3x ISA.
I don't think there are any other realistic alternatives.

Slot 1 and Super Socket 7 boards are other options...
Or make a midi host box that allows one to swap Daughterboards without reboot.

Adek also an industrial mATX motherboard with 2x ISA and Core2/Quad support.... but the ISA slots are noted as not supporting DMA... which means soundcards are probably out of the window!

I'll be more than happy to make more recordings, so post your requests. You will have to wait until after the weekend, because the PC with the Wave XTable is in the office.

Awesome! In that case - settlers 2 themes 😀
By request: 15 MIDI recordings from Settlers II have been added. Enjoy! And post your requests.
