Hello!

I tried to get Buzz Aldrin's Race into Space to work with VDMS. with version 2.0.4, i got sound, but no picture with the default settings. I upgraded to 2.1, and now the game returns to DOS with a divide by zero error.

I tried default settings on 2.1 and custom with AND without VESA emulation.

The game was on a compatibility list here

# Motherboard: MSI K7T266 PRO2-RU
# Processor type and speed: Athlon 1800+
# Amount and type of RAM: DDR266 512MB
# Video board w/ RAM amount and type: AIW Radeon 7500 32mb
# Sound board: integrated to motherboard (AC97)
# Operating system: Windows 2000
# Reproducibility of problem : Always
# Sound mode used: Sound blaster
# Video mode: ??

Slight error on my part:

The error says Divide error (with no "zero")

Sorry!

The problem isn't with VDMSound, it's that your processor is too fast for the game executable to handle. You can either run it in DosBox (using SoundBlaster/Thunderboard for sound and music) or patch the game up to v1.01. CTBPPAT won't fix the speed problem due to the executable's compilation/compression/whatever, but the executable included in the 1.01 patch should work.

Patch is available at Patches Scrolls.

Interesting that the problem only manifested itself after upgrading to 2.1.0, however... guess there's been some optimization. 😀

Yes, it’s my fault.

OK I got the game to work!

After patching, it works if I don't turn the music on in the game's config. On the other hand, the sound effects work if I use the Sound Blaster 1.0 config in VDMS.

I'll try to fix around the music problem and come back.

Thanks again for a great program!
