I've been searching through the forums all morning and have not been able to find a problem specific to anything I'm currently running. Most of my symbol keys (apostrophes, brackets, the plus key but not the minus key, etc.) simply will not work in Dosbox. I've even tried specifying the US layout and disabling the UseScanCodes function, and that just results in the keys spitting out 2 symbols at once, neither of which are the one I need.

My computer is a Dell XPS, Core i7 2.67GHz, GeForce GT 220, on-board sound, Windows 7 64-bit. The keyboard is one of those Dell multimedia keyboards with the extra keys on top... but I don't think I can disable the keys.

It doesn't seem to matter what settings I choose, so I think it must be something specific with the keyboard, or 7. Any help coming my way? 😅

So, looks like more information is required. I just recently decided to try and remap all the keys in the mapper. Unfortunately, the ones that don't work all are detected as "UNKNOWN KEY". Which for some odd reason also identifies them as the SAME key. So whichever one I remap last, they all end up corresponding to.

Note that this is also a problem on a clean install of Dosbox.

I have a similar issue, but figured out the problem.

In my case it was a USB remote receiver for a media cenre remote. When this is plugged in, I can't use DOSBox because I can't type in : and other keys.

Unplugging or disabling the device in device manager solves the problem.

Why DOSBox plays up with the remote receiver, I have no idea. No other application has issues with this, but DOSBox does.

So mayne you have some other input devices plugged into your machine?

Unfortunately, I don't have anything plugged in except a USB keyboard and mouse. I don't think my tower has a PS/2 slot, or else I'd consider switching to my *old* keyboard 😜

HA! Following the instructions in the second thread worked. I didn't even know Windows 7 had anything like that installed! Sounds like this needs to be added to the Dosbox FAQ since it seems to be a common problem with Vista/7. Thanks so much guys!
