I've been running dosbox on Windows 7 64 bit for the last several weeks (playing Master of Orion) with no issues. Today, when I try to capture the dosbox window, instead of transferring control to the game's cursor, a Linux-style black cursor remains over my window, and I have no mouse ability. I made no changes to the conf file before this happened, nor have I played any other games.

I tried changing the "change output" parameter to various settings, but none of them work. My autolock is set to true.

One more piece of information; when I boot into Fedora 14 and try, I get the same effect; Linux cursor with no mouse in-game.

Any suggestions?

No. Well, not really. It removes the Linux mouse pointer, and removes Windows' access to the mouse, but it does not give dosbox any control of the mouse. weird things is I haven't run ANY updates in the last couple days. As far as I can tell, my system is exactly the same; the mouse just stopped working.

In the meantime I've tried uninstall/reinstall with no effect.

The same game? Or did you disable mouse in the game settings? When the game doesn't support mouse or it was disabled then there is no mouse cursor (same as the dosbox prompt).

Well, problem solved. I'm not sure what happened, but on a hunch I deleted the game folder and replaced it, and now everything's working. So it wasn't a dosbox issue at all, but some corruption in the game.
