VileRancour wrote:@Gemini - a question: what tools do you use to produce the show? especially the opening animation and PC-speaker-style music... both are very well done and a really nice touch.
I first use DOSBox to capture gameplay footage, of course. ;)
Next, I use VirtualDub to convert the caputred footage to 640x480 resolution as best as possible at a framerate of 30 FPS.
Many of the graphics in the show are first drawn up using Deluxe Paint 2E, and then I use Paint Shop Pro to give them their translucency.
I use Audacity for all audio editing, though the sound effects and opening music was all done in QBASIC and recorded with DOSBox. ;D
I made the 3D title sequence using an older version of Truespace, specifically version 5.2, which I've owned for quite awhile. I tried to use Truespace 7 but that program just confuses the heck out of me. x_x;
Granted, that gives me a 24-bit colour animation, so I used PSP's included Animation Shop to reduce the colour depth down to the standard 16-colour EGA palette using error diffusion.
For the actual video editing and rendering, I use Sony Vegas HD, which is the least expensive NLE (non-linear editing) software I could find that does everything I need it to do without bugs or glitches. I seriously tried EVERY free solution for Windows and all of them had issues, so I had to resort to non-free software. Still, Sony Vegas HD is very inexpensive considering how versatile it is but does arbitrary lock out certain features (notably M4V customization settings) unless you buy a more advanced version of the software.
So yeah, there's a LOT of software involved in making a single episode of ADG. ^_^;
Oh, and in Episode 0 and Fillers #3 and #4, you'll hear music I tracked myself using Impulse Tracker. While I've created lots of my own music, very little of it is on the internet. At the moment, the best source for my music is PixelShips Retro, as all 13 music tracks in that game are my own creation. ;)
