Just thought I'd say hello from my 1996 Dell GXPro system. Using it now to type this post... woohooo! What's the oldest PC you've used on the net, or to post on Vogons?

Compaq Prolinea 590. Pentium 120, 64MB RAM, Arachne DOS web browser.
I've had a 486DX2-66 online using Arachne. http://forums.atomicmpc.com.au/index.php?show … &st=40&start=40
If you are squeamish, don't prod the beach rubble.
Pentium 133, 16MB RAM, 1GB Seagate, Windows 95, US Robotics Sportster 33.6kbs DFVM, ALI M3145 Graphics Card, SB32PnP CT3600. I remember the largest file I downloaded with my "phone line" at that time was the Shadow Warrior shareware - about 16MB!!! - I was lucky to get it without the use of a download manager. And, uh...at that time, "PersianKitty" was HOT! 😁
Oldest machine I've browsed the net from was an AST Advantage! 486 DX4-100 OverDrive with 20MB RAM using a 3Com EtherLink 10Mbps card and with Windows for Workgroups 3.11
I might get the 386DX-40 out and see how that goes with web browsing. 😁
Ooo, thought I'll post my full specs:
Dell Optiplex GXPro
Hardware: Pentium Pro 200mhz, 128mb EDO ram, 10.8gb Fujitsu drive,S3 Virge 4mb, Diamond Monster 3D 4mb, Aztech WL230 USB wireless adapter (I'm guessing this PC never thought it'd go wireless in it's life) 🤣
Software: Windows 98SE, Opera 5.12 (lightning fast!!!)
This is fun- I feel like I'm transported back to 1996-7!
I think some of the hardcore Amiga users will probably tell that they are posting from an Ami web browser and they are either using their A 600 or their Amiga 1200.
Last fall I got a P133, 16MB RAM, WFWG 3.11 machine online. I actually managed to use IE 5 to get on Facebook (mobile version works, though it is a formatting nightmare), update my status, and upload a screenshot of what I was doing. I couldn't believe it worked... would never want to do it regularly though.
Wafflenet OPL Archive - Preserving MS-DOS music in a unified format!
The oldest system I ever had with internet connection was a 386SX-25 with 2MB ram, using Arachne 😀
it died a few weeks ago 🙁

I have an amiga 1200 with 68030 accelerator and 64mb RAM which I have got on the internet however it was even more painful than Arachne on a 486. From what I hear you can get pretty reasonable Internet performance with a 68060 but those accelerators are pretty expensive.
Use to surf with my Amiga 600, Mtec 68030 40mhz accelerator, pcmcia network card
With some gfx speedup patches it went pretty smooth.
Oldest pure PC I've used was my Compaq deskpro 486 66mhz machine with win95 and IE 5.5....painfully slow websurfing experience
My retro computer stuff: https://lychee.jjserver.net/#16136303902327
I think the oldest I ever went was a Pentium II 233 with Win98 and Firefox 1.5 back in 2005-2006. It was ok for basic and most html pages, but anything else was just so slowwwwwwww (which is expected). I used to have that PC at my father's birthplace house, just for kicks, I got a better PC there later, a Pentium 4 at 3GHz.
First PC I'm sure about surfing with was a pentium 100 running 95 that was our main machine in 1994. Edit - or maybe it was in 1995, might make more sense 😜.
More recently I used a thinkpad 701cs [486 cpu] on the web, even installed debian over dialup on it once. And used lynx, text browser ftw.
Used to use a Performa 5200 on dialup too.
Macintosh LCIII with a 2400 baud modem. (think 386/33) I remember AOL. It came on a SINGLE 800K FLOPPY! But the oldest computer i used on the internet RECENTLY is my 700mhz p3 laptop. it sits on my desk and idles in a few irc channels...
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Isnt that a little bit risky to go on the internet with that old browser version?
Can you use youtube on that machine?? 🤣
Yesterday i was on the internet with this system:
AMD Athlon 850mhz Socket A
ABIT KT7A-RAID
512 MB PC-133 SDRAM
320GB SATA disk samsung T166 (with IDE convertor)
Asus Geforce 4 TI 4400 AGP x4 128MB
Cheap Sweex Gigabit lan..
Windows 98 second edition
Kernelex software + K-meleon webbrower. (cant use Youtube, but other things works perfectly and fast.)
~ At least it can do black and white~
AM586@160 + OffByOne.... why did i even need to upgrade from this point?
I just installed an isa network card in my 486dx33.
If i get it to work ill probably come and say hello from it.
Ill also need to find svga drivers for windows 3.1 because ironicaly, this forum is Unreadable in 16 colors!
edit : Btw leileilol, your previous avatar did look great in 16 colors! Cant say with the current one though 😜
I've managed to get online with a Mac Performa 631CD. I have a IIci but haven't tried going online with it before I recycled the case for use with a Quadra 700 motherboard.

Which drivers are you looking for? I have some Windows 3.1x SVGA drivers (via my signature link - for about 70+ cards, I think - both for Win3.1x and some for WinNT3.51) but not sure if I have what you need.
