I recently installed Windows 95 on my Compaq Presario CDS 520. Everything seems to be OK apart from the refresh rate. The graphics card in this machine is a Cirrus Logic GD5424 with 512 kb. In device manager it lists it just as a Cirrus Logic. I cannot find any options for changing the refresh rate and I suspect it is at a headache inducing 60Hz right now. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I chose "Compaq Presario Integrated Monitor" from the list of monitors. This Compaq has the screen built in. Maybe it is not the right monitor driver though?

Did you setup refresh rates with CLMODE in autoexec.bat?

IIRC there are Cirus windows drivers that come with a refresh rate utility....

I will have to try and hunt down those drivers if that is the case.

Is CLMODE something that requires some kind of extra driver from Cirrus?

Would that Scitech display doctor thing help?

I think I used something called HzTool for tinkering with refresh rates long ago. However, 60 Hz might very well be as high as it can go – I went through a bunch of monitors that could only do 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768 at 60, 56, and 43.5 Hz (interlaced), respectively.

(I never found it particularly headache-inducing, but maybe that's just me.)

Yeah, I don't know if this monitor/graphics card can do more than 60Hz. I will try a few things later on today.

I have checked a Cirrus driver in my archive and there is a refresh_rate.inf that can be rigth clicked and installed. It installs a DLL that gives you a property sheet in display setting for refresh rates of the card.
CL_REF.DLL 50176 Bytes.
