First off, I do own the original copy of this, and I created the iso from the legitimate retail CD. No piracy here. If you want the explanation of exact circumstances, I will detail that at the end. Cutting to the question however:

I am trying to play Dungeon Keeper (original Dos version) on 64 bit Windows 7 in Dosbox. It will not install without Dosbox because it is not 64 bit compatible, and it will not run in dosbox because I can't get dosbox to recognize the virtual drive from Daemon tools. I was able to install it just fine, but when I run it, it gives me the "no CD" error.

P.S. my DK CD was badly scratched. My computer wouldn't recognize it but for some reason my brother's computer read it just fine. I used his computer to make an iso from my CD so I could run it on my computer. Since I own the original I believe this is legal.

Just load the ISO directly with DOSBoX, it has buit in virtual cd. 😉

Exemple:
imgmount d cd.iso -t cdrom

Mounting a DAEMON Tools virtual drive in DOSBox has never given me a problem.
You can also mount the ISO image directly with the IMGMOUNT command.

Thank you, I got it to work. The only drawback to playing it on this computer however is that since it was designed for a much slower system, my computer is overly efficient and certain aspects of the game fly by much quicker than the designers intended, but I'm not complaining. I still get to play it. Thanks! 😀

Isn't it better to use keeper95 with direct3d patch, in win95 compatibility mode?

would be curious to see if it works, but not sure its gonna work all that well in win7 64bit. I played it on dosbox using directDraw and some screen filtering, it looked good and played smooth.

The direct3D version is 32-bit and windows native. So I guess it should work on 64-bit win7.

On my 32-bit XP it works fine, only problem is that Windows makes programs that run in compatibility mode use only a single CPU core. So every time you start the game, you have to go to task manager and set the process affinity to enable all CPU cores or it will run like on a 386.

Other than that it runs just like the dos version on a dos machine, only with 3D acceleration and native windows sound support. Plus if you enable antialiasing in your graphics card drivers, it almost looks like you're playing in 800x600 🤣
