I think it was just too mediocre. Something you'd watch once and find it enjoyable and then never watch it again, because it's not going to capture your interest. A shame, I think that with a better cast it might have been a lot better (especially Zooey Deschanel, my god she is atrocious in this movie, she's fine in other movies I've watched though).

I have a copy of the book. Maybe I'll read it when I'm done with the book I'm on right now. I've seen the 2005 movie and thought it was pretty good. I really liked the robot and the black guy.

I did read the entire series when I was young, probably multiple times. Don't really think that the Douglas Adams style of humour has aged all that well now, FWIW.

Just another example of political correctness run amok. There was no black guy in the original so naturally they had to add one so nobody would get pissed off. That was one of the things I hated about it.
