I am thinking maybe it has something to with with CTMU - it seems to only let you assign between 0 and 3

When I set up Duke 3D, it was only listing DMAs 5,6,7 for 16-bit - and the game runs fine

I think PNP cards were okay under Windows but NO GOOD under DOS.

Well its likely that you got an extra-cheap card. A hint would be that the 16-bit portion of the ISA connector is blank at the top side.

No. it's a 16-bit card -4270. When I run diagnose it tests both the 8=bit and 16-bit audio

16-bit audio can be squeezed through an 8-bit bus too and plugging in the 16-bit connector does not neccessarily mean the 16-bit bus is actually used.

Are you sure its not CT-4170? That is the 8-bit variant. I have one here.

Opps - you are right - it is CT-4170. Are you saying that is actually an 8-bit card? That explains a bit....
