This time i doesnt have money for buying an SCSI cd-rom player, that can i do later also. But when i bought the case for my 80386 case it came with an mitsumi double speed cd-rom player, also known as a 2x speed cd-rom player.

I know it could connected it to the soundcards cd-rom interface..
I setup the cd-rom interface soundcard connector.. I set it to mitsumi, and connecting the drive on the mitsumi connector.. (to setup the soundcard connector i used sndinit.exe program utility..

It makes an automaticly string:

DEVICE=C:\MAGICS20\CDIFINIT.SYS /T:X

in the config.sys...

But after rebooting the system, it gave me an load error. And cd-rom drive doesnt work..

For being sure the cd-rom player works, i have connecting it now to a pentium 200mhz rig. And it seems the drive is working perfect!!. So that couldnt be the problem..

Then i tried to find a manual for my acer magic s20 soundcard.. But still finding the orginal manual for it...

But i found this link with google:

http://www.techadvice.com/tech/c/cdrom_dossu.htm

All i found it this:

Mitsumi

Mitsumi IDE CD-ROM v1.35 Driver
Systems
Systems with the Mitsumi 2x or 4x CD-ROM Drive. These systems can
be identified by the words "Double Speed" or "Quad Speed" imprinted on
the CD-ROM tray.

Installation Process
1.Download the latest driver from our ftp site.
2.Place a diskette into the floppy drive. All data on this disk will be
removed.
3.Enter FORMAT A: /U from the MS-DOS prompt to prepare the diskette
for data.
4.Enter MIT135CD.EXE -D A: from the directory you transferred the file
to. This will decompress the self-extracting file onto the floppy diskette.
5.Enter A:\SETUPD.EXE once the file is extracted to install the CD-ROM
driver and follow the prompts to complete the installation. During the
installation, you will be prompted for the location of MSCDEX.EXE.
In DOS 6.X this file is located in the C:\DOS directory.
In Windows 95 this file is located in the C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
directory.

Additional Information
The installation process will automatically create the entry
MTMCDAI.SYS below the following lines in your CONFIG.SYS file if
you have an AcerMagic S20 sound card and a CMD IDE Controller
running MS-DOS 6.x.

DEVICE=C:\MAGICS20\CDIFINIT.SYS /T:X

DEVICE=C:\QUICKCMD\CMD640X.SYS /I15 /A33 /L

DEVICE=C:\MTM\MTMCDAI.SYS /D:MTMIDE01

Mitsumi IDE (non-OEM)

autoexec.bat

c:\DOS\MSCDEX.exe /D:MTMIDE01 /M:10

config.sys

device=c:\MTM\MTMCDAI.sys /D:MTMIDE01

Normally i know that it needs a cd-rom driver like *.sys and a string in the config.sys file..

And an mscdex.exe cd-rom program and a string in the autoexec.bat..

But now i see it need :

DEVICE=C:\MAGICS20\CDIFINIT.SYS /T:X

DEVICE=C:\QUICKCMD\CMD640X.SYS /I15 /A33 /L

DEVICE=C:\MTM\MTMCDAI.SYS /D:MTMIDE01

Dont i need the mscdex.exe program because of the MTMCDAI.SYS driver??? I dont know what it need to do to let the mitsumi drive work on the soundcards mitsumi interface..

Is this just a IDE cd-rom drive that needs to connect it to the IDE interface on the soundcard, or is this a soundcard interface compatible drive that can used on the mitsumi interface connector from the soundcard?

Well, if it works on your pentium 200 pc, connected on the IDE port, then it certainly is an IDE drive. It doesn't matter if it's a mitsumi drive, you can't use the mitsumi interface. Use the IDE instead.

So then i only use this settings and drivers?

Mitsumi IDE (non-OEM)

autoexec.bat

c:\DOS\MSCDEX.exe /D:MTMIDE01 /M:10

config.sys

device=c:\MTM\MTMCDAI.sys /D:MTMIDE01

Whats that CDIFINIT.SYS driver for? Only needed with iam going to use the panasonic interface or so?

Does your card look like this one ?

I mean having 4 CD-ROM interfaces. (Mitsumi/Sony/Panasonic/IDE). If that's the case, make sure you are connecting the drive on the IDE connector, not the mitsumi one. And yes, try the IDE driver. If it doesn't work, try any other IDE driver you have. Probably that of the windows 98 bootdisk will do.

Yes thats the version of the card i have..

I checked the cd-rom drive, and seems its working fine..
Also tried a different cable, but got no effect at all..

Then i tried SNDINIT.EXE serverial times.. Tried to enable it to IDE interface, and sets this line in the config.sys:

DEVICE=C:\MAGICS20\CDIFINIT.SYS /T: I
Under it i had to set it manually it to:
DEVICE=C:\PROGRAMS\CD\MTMCDAI.SYS (and tried also MTMCDAE.SYS) /D:MTMIDE01

AND in AUTOEXEC.BAT

C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MTMIDE01 /M:10

But the main problem is, when i enable the soundcards IDE interface its disabled it again when i reboot, or directly go back to the SNDINIT.EXE tool..
I think the cd-rom IDE is just dead (maybe the OPTI chip that controls the whole thing) I know it for sure its the right driver that CDIFINIT.SYS.
It comes with the right driver package for DOS and WINDOWS3.1(1)
