Hi vogons! I love you people. Thanks in advance for at least reading this.

OK, so I can get Space Quest IV to run in DOSBox on my XP machine, but I can't get speech, and my girl won't play with me without it.

I read that installing Win3x inside DOSBox can make a great difference with these things, so I have done this, but my problem is in installing the SB16 sound drivers.

When I try to install these drivers to my DOSBox c:\sb16 directory, it works until it does not detect a sound card at i/o address 220H, even if I set DOSBox to this addy specifically.

Sorry if this is too vague, but I just wanted to get the ball rolling. Hope my forum etiquette is good so far.

Cheers, all!

You can get speech in the DOS version still and YOU DON'T NEED TO INSTALL SOUND DRIVERS.

Use the INSTALL.exe program, select Sound Blaster for speech and ALWAYS keep the CD mounted when you play, you'll be hearing Gary Owens without the need of Windows in no time.

And I repeat, don't install and use soundblaster drivers, that won't be neccessary.

It can be a bit tricky.

First up, get and use the GoSierra audio patch...
http://www.sierrahelp.com/Utilities/SoundUtil … s/GOSiERRA.html

Then double check that the paths in your resource.cfg file align with the actual paths to the games files...
directory = \sierra\sq4
audio = D:\sq4

OK, so, audio patch + having the CD mounted in Daemon tools totally worked. Holy crap it's awesome! Thanks again, friendly Vogons!

No need of Daemon Tools or Win3x. No CD needs to be mounted, depending on how you set the game up. Even the GOSiERRA patcher is not needed as long as cycles are not set to high. As far as the paths in the RESOURCE.CFG, that will vary according to how you have things mounted. Here is the easy way to do it:
