Hiya!
I have built a p4/2.4ghz win98se machine in order to run nicely win9x games, from the very first to the "latest" ones in 2001/2002 that won't run fine on a modern pc.
The machine has 512MB ram, a 200GB HDD, a SB Live! and a v2 sli setup. All running fine. (v2 sli setup used only in glide-only games or games that have other probs like Blood2 that comes to mind due to recent discussions here, I really prefer the GF for anything else because of the higher resolutions and overal rendering quality...)
I have 3 AGP nv cards that I can use with it:
a. A 4200ti with 64MB, don't know the manufacturer but it has a really nice arctic cooler cooling solution , scored ~11.150 at 3dmark2001se with 45.23 drivers
b. a Gainward SilentFX 5700 256MB , it could be a 5700ultra gpu , can't remember atm , untested for now
c. a recently acquired Pixelview 6800GT 256MB card, it's just a reference design one (noisy cooler) , scored ~15.100 at 3dmark2001se with 81.98 drivers
(also I have available a geforce1/64mb and a geforce2-gts/64mb too IIRC)
Anyone happens to know what card would give me the less problems?
The point in building this machine was to have as much power as possible in older win9x games so I get fluid framerates...
For now I only tested to some extend Ultima9 on 4200 and 6800 ... 4200 seems to behave better or the same to my surprise... but that could be because of the 6800's drivers... And I can't say I was amazed by the 3dmark2001se performance of the 6800GT...
Any recommendations and advice will be appreciated, thanks!!! 😊
