Is this genuine? It's not even a real chip.

I think it's probably the same one mentioned in this thread

I dont see the point, no markings, no electronics, paying good money for a box essentially.

I think only a really obsessed collector might pay that kinda money. Personally, I might pay $5 shipped. I'm clearly not the target audience.

I almost think it belongs in here,

But who knows - to the crazily obsessed, $800 might be a bargain.

Whenever the word "RARE" or "VERY RARE" is tagged with the title, I always hold back. If those words are present, the price will also be absurdly high (almost all anyway).

It has become almost routine for me to lose interest whenever the word RARE is associated with the description.

It's too common nowadays to see people justify listing insanely high bid/buy price by including that word. It feels more like the lister is fishing for suckers. And suckers do exist - like those of bidding at Christie's and the sort.

We collect but we also enjoy with our hobby at the same time - listening to the Sierra games' MT-32 music, seeing 3dfx in action, seeing S3 Virge in action, for e.g..
(I had only Sound Blaster when the games came out those days. Getting an MT-32 was like a dream those days.)

I once listed a CM-500 begininning with 0.99 cents. Didn't include the word rare or vintage. (And never a reserve price from me, ever. 😀)

Was going to place the minimum bid just for a laugh, but someone already did! 😒

WOW, it sold for $437AUD!!! (aprox the same in USD).

Im ASTOUNDED, for that you get a blank CPU with no markings, A cardboard box which contains the text "Pentium OverDrive Processor / P24CT
Mechanical Sample and "C" Spacer", a bit of foam and a black block.

I could see the logic if it was an actual POD100 cpu,

That's just ridiculous for a part that isn't even a part. It's just a spacer is all it is really is to show how an actual part would fit in a motherboard and the clearances that would be required around the CPU socket and above the fan. I hope the buyer doesn't think he is getting a working part.
