I searched the forums and found lots of topics but none with the exact problem I'm having. I'm running the CD-ROM version.

Using .74 the game crashes shortly after I pick 'Start a new game' or 'Load a Saved game'.

Depending on the sound setup I choose I either get a crash to dos with Ansi characters and a lockup or I get a message in a few languages saying it couldn't load the sound drivers.

The introduction plays with music and digitized sound it's only when I go to start an actual game that I have these issues.

Anyone know what's up? I will of course provide more info if no one recognizes this issue right away and needs more info. Thanks in advance.

Works fine for me. I used GM for the music and SB for soundfx and digital samples. This was with a standard install with the included installer and most of the data left on the CD. The game tries to read the CD at that point. Perhaps a damaged CD?

Hmm...it is an image. I will try the original CD and if that works I'll try to make another image. Good thought, thanks.

Plus, IIRC, "The Hand of Fate" official patch was released. Try it.

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

Haha, it was all my fault as usual, though thanks for all the help it led me to the issue. I must have installed the floppy version previously at some point to the same directory. When I ran the patch it told me that a file was incorrect so I reinstalled and noticed there were a lot less files this time.

Chalk one up to my mistake again. Thanks all!
