Hello there,

Sorry to bump thread, but I really need help with this.

I am using D-Fend to run DosBox. I am attempting to get a multiplayer game running. I have connected my laptop and my desktop to the local area network. I think I can connect my desktop. I have connected using IPXNET, I started a server and one computer is the client (I think, I edited Dosbox in D-Fend options to set this up, and both computers say they are connected but no response from the PING, so I am not sure if it is actually connected or not). I have a netbios.exe file, but I have no idea how to run it in dosbox.

I have tried to find otherways of connecting Magic Carpet up to the network like setting up Hamachi, but I still can't use the network icon in the main menu of the game.

It is also said that you have to run carpet.exe -network but when I do that, it doesn't work either, and after searching vigorously over the internet for answers I am very lost with all of this. I hope I still have hair left by the end of the day.

Can someone please provide a step-by-step guide on how to get this working please, I would really appreciate it, I've been working on this for days.

Thanks! 😁

Regards,

Luke

Hello again,

Sorry to double post, but I have an update:

I have managed to get some sense of out the mess. I put the netbios.exe file in the same directory that Magic Carpet is in. I hope this is right, but when it came to running netbios.exe before I moved it, it said that netbios was an illegal command, but when I have it in the same directory, it loads when I start the game with the carpet.exe -network command.

I managed to get two computers to connect using the IPXNET server. One being the client and one being the server. I followed these instructions to do that:
http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Connectivity

I first started with the server computer, and did what was suggested here:

1) IPXNET STARTSERVER
2) MOUNT C C:\MC\CARPET
3) NETBIOS.EXE
4) CARPET.EXE -NETWORK

So the game runs on the server computer.

On the client server. This is what I put in for it's dosbox:

1) IPXNET CONNECT (IP address of server computer here)
2) MOUNT C C:\MC\CARPET
3) NETBIOS.EXE
4) CARPET.EXE -NETWORK

So both games start up, the network icon in the sorcerers chamber will not light up. It still will not work, it's as if the game started without a network. I believe I have followed these instructions on this thread correctly. Both dosbox programs are the same version on both computers, and both PING tests prove that it is connected to the server. What am I missing?

Appreciate the help in advance!

Thanks!

Regards,

Luke

Hello,

Thank you for replying.

I have made sure that dosbox is on the exception list, and after refering to my instructions above, the network icon is still not working.

Curious question, netbios warns me that a server is already connected and asks whether to overwrite the files or not. Is it a bad thing that I do?

Dosbox is installed on a seperate drive to the game, could this affect it?

What other files would I need to start this apart from netbios and the files from the original disk?

Are all of the steps explained in my last post correct?

Thanks again!

Regards,

Luke

Ehhh its rather hard to get any of the carpets run whit just pure dosbox.

I mainly use: YANG for magic carpet.

Why? because you can make automated server whit possible forwarding to it almost impossible to run magic carpet whit out that... trust me ive tried.

Although maybe someone has, but ive havent 🙁.

Pro Magic carpet player since 2000....

Its all lost now 🙁
