This game is being a problem child for me. First of all, my system specs:
Apple iMac 2008 (9.1)
Windows 7 Ultimate X64
Intel C2D @ 2.93ghz
4 GB Ram
Here's what happened. I picked up this game from a random website and first installed it on a purpose-built 486 that I keep around for oldies. It worked flawlessly, so I can eliminate corrupt files as a cause of these problems.
My main DosBox install is version 0.74. Using the default configuration settings (Auto CPU, svga_s3, everything else default), I am unable to run the game itself (start.exe) or the setup program.
Running the setup program shows me its first screen, asking if I have a joystick I want to use. No further input is possible; the main DosBox window freezes and the console logs a "Illegal GRP4 Call 5" message. After a moment, Dosbox shuts down.
Knowing from experience that some games work better on older versions, I then tried using an install of version 0.65 I keep around. Instead of mysterious console errors, I get actual errors within the DOS instance:
run-time error R6003 - Integer divide by 0
followed by
run-time error R6001 - null pointer assignment
Trying different CPU, machine, and memory settings has not had any effect on this error. It's always the two in .65 and always the one in .74.
It's also worth mentioning that both of these errors come up before any input can be entered to answer the question.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what my problem could be? Thanks!
