😠

I have been hassling to get IHNMaIMS to Work on DOSBOX. At best, I can launch the game, but all of the sound effects, dialouge, and music is missing. Plus, If I try to run DOSBOX in fullscreen, (Alt-Enter) DOSBOX Freezes and won't budge until I press Alt-Enter again. When I tried to install the game, I tried to open the inst.bat within DOSBOX. All that happens is I get a few lines of text that say something close to
"initiallizing inst.bat"
"could not delete __"
"could not delete___"
"Cannot find ____"

I then tried to convert INST.BAT into an executable. After doing so, I opened up DOSBOX, mounted the directory with the game, and tried to open "INST.EXE", except once doing so, it tells me that the program cannot be run is DOS mode. HELP ME HELP ME THIS IS AWFUL.

how do i signature

what inst.bat? There should be an install.exe which you run.

I have no idea how or why you would do something like that.

Just use ScummVM. In this case it will likely work much better than DOSBox.

Or play skyrim. Or Duke Nukem forever.

Huh? IHNMAIMS is by various accounts a unique gaming experience and I might finally get around to checking it out myself some day. I just don't know of any particular reason to run it with DOSBox instead of ScummVM.

Some people like the more original way to play games. Same wirh some people prefering Dosbox to play Ultima 7 and not Exult. Something I don't quite understand 😉

Considering that the OP has not responded by this point, I suspect that I scared him off by suggesting that he reinstall with his original CD. He probably had an abandonware self extracting ZIP:

tried to open "INST.EXE", except once doing so, it tells me that the program cannot be run is DOS mode.

Actually, I was thinking that whatever the heck this BAT-to-EXE "converter" is probably generates Win32 executables.

I understood that Exult was reasonably far from perfect, and lacked things like formation data that was hardcoded into the original EXE.

Exult is far from perfect but much more enjoyable than the original (plus with a mod it's got an awesome and much improved flying carpet now which can be rolled up and carried around 😉)

Exult does not use ems.

But that should not be a thread about discussing what is better, to some people it's simply different and some prefer the one over the other or the other way round.

You are probably right.
