Blood Music Issues

This is a general issue with many older games on my computer:

The music or CD music of an old game is too loud. In Blood, when the music tracks run, I can barely hear anything but the music.
I have tried changing sb16 on Dosbox to sb2 and nothing happened.
I have Realtek HD Audio and tried to change settings but nothing has changed.

I have had the same issue with Dos era games such as Doom and Heretic, and for them I used Vavoom. In Blood though, the music shrieking so loudly is unbearable.

I have searched the forums and cannot seem to find many similar problems.

Tips please?

use a SVN build of DOSBox. CD audio volume support works there

I just Googled "SVN Dosbox" and found a boatload of these builds.

Any tips as to which to use? (I had seen mention of "D-Fend" and such before but had never looked into them)

Thanks for the suggestion!

Read it and have not been able to find one that mentions CD Audio.

I tried D-Fend and now the Blood music becomes a nearly inaudible Midi.

Being a complete amateur with this I am fairly uncertain as to what to do.
Would you recommend a specific SVN please?

I assume you're using a BIN/CUE image of the game disc mounted with the IMGMOUNT command, because otherwise you should use the CD audio volume control provided by your host OS or soundcard drivers.

You can use the MIXER command in DOSBox to change the volume of CD audio, and for that you don't need an SVN build. For example, to set the volume to 50% you'd use the command: "MIXER CDAUDIO 50:50"

An SVN build of DOSBox is only needed if you want Blood's CD audio volume control (the one in the game itself) to work. Look at the vanilla SVN build resources listed on the DOSBox Wiki; and don't expect to see a specific mention of CD audio, just use the most recent build available.

Thank you! I remember looking for an option in the DosBox command list and for whatever reason never saw that one.

The Blood speed problems I have been able to work out (with 320x480 as max resolution I can get before it starts to chug), but this CD volume has made it impossible.

Thanks a lot! (I assume MIXER CDAUDIO 100:100 sets it back to normal?)

The default volume settings are 100% on both channels, so your assumption is correct. Information regarding the MIXER command is in the readme/manual.
